Erkin Abdulla

Erkin Abdulla (Uyghur: ئەركىن ئابدۇلل; Chinese: 艾尔肯·阿布杜拉, pinyin: Àiěrkěn Ābùdùlā) (also, Arken Abdulla), was born in Qarghiliq of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. He started to study guitar since childhood. In 1999, he graduated from Central University for Nationalities. Because he was very fond of music, he became a professional pop singer, and set up Erkin Music Group. He is an associate director of Chinese Flamenco Association.

Erkin's music is not merely in the traditional styles, but free and surpasses its ethnic roots. Using Flamenco, he has created a new music to the traditional one, making his work more modern and international. Some different from the concept most people have of traditional Uyghur music, his music has a distinct, international flare.

In 2002, Erkin, as a singer and songwriter, sang at a competition arranged by cooperation between the Japanese Fuji Television Networks and Beijing Television (BTV). Then he moved up to the annual championship round. As the representative of China as a contestant at the “China-Japan Cultural Exchange”, Erkin got the great acclaim.
At the end of 2002, at Nanning’s “International Folk Music Art Festival”, Erkin won Best Individual Album Awards as his first album (The Dolan Out of the Desert).
April 2003: Erkin's band went to the Beijing Agricultural University for a charity performance, aimed to give aid to earthquake victims in Maralbexi County of Xinjiang.
October 2003: Erkin won a first prize in the area of Popular Music from the Ministry of Culture of the Peoples Republic of China at the 2003 National Vocal Music Competition.
November 2003: Erkin’s work “Uyghur Girl” was ranked among the Best Ten Golden Hits Award.
November 2003: Erkin’s work “Men öley” won the Best New Artist’s WorkAward at the 6th Annual Shanghai Zhenmei Cup Asian Music Festival.
November 2003: Erkin won the Silver Award for Best New Artist at the 6th Annual Shanghai Zhenmei Cup Asian Music Festival.
In 2004, Erkin played on the CCTV Spring Festival Celebration, and sang the song “Almakhan”.
January 2004: Erkin published his second album “1001 Nights”.
April 2004: The VCD “Erkin: Guitar Prince” went on sale well in Xinjiang.
June 2004: Erkin published “The Collection of Erkin’s Music Notes”.
June 2004: Erkin began the “Tengritagh Heavenly Music Tour" in Xinjiang.
June 2004: Erkin was given the honor: “Ambassador of Kashgar’s Youth”.
June 2004: Erkin’s best music selection was released throughout China as a double-album “The Dolan Out of the Desert”.
August 2004: Erkin and his band performed in Turpan.
September 2004: The VCD / DVD “Erkin: Guitar Prince” went on sale throughout China.
November 2004: Erkin performed the musical piece “The Closest people to the sun” at a concert. A VCD was made to be sold in Xinjiang.
In 2005, Erkin appeared on the CCTV Spring Festival Celebration, and sang “Lift Your Veil”.
May 2005: As the “Ambassador of Kashgar’s Youth”, Erkin wrote music for the movie “Brothers and Sisters”, sang the theme song “Kashgar”.
August 2005: Erkin produced his third album “Night of the City”.
January 2006: The VCD of Erkin’s “Night of the City” went on sale in Xinjiang.
May 2006: His fourth album "Döngköwrük's story" was published.
