Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy

Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy is a part of Rutgers University. It is located at William Levine Hall on Busch Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. It was founded in 1892 as the College of Pharmacy and then incorporated into Rutgers University in 1927[1]. Before it was moved to current place, the school of pharmacy was located in Newark, New Jersey. The school is consisted of Department of Chemical Biology, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Department of Pharmacology, Department of Pharmaceutics, and Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration. The solely school offers six-years Doctor of Pharmacy degree program at its New Brunswick/Piscataway campus and 2+4 Doctor of Pharmacy program at Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden campuses. Those students who are admitted to the 2+4 program in Newark and Camden are automatically admitted to the School of Pharmacy in Piscataway upon successful completion of the two year pre-professional curriculum at Newark/Camden. Most of its students are admitted directly from high school into the six-years program at New Brunswick/Piscataway campus and some are admitted to Newark or Camden campus. Transfer students are very rare due to the fact that space is only made available when someone transfers out.

The curriculum is consisted of six years of studying. The first two years are called Pre-Professional years because the classes are not offered by the School of Pharmacy, and the class contents only provide basic knowledge in organic chemistry, human physiology, physics, and mathematics which will aid in professional studies. Upon successful completion of the first and second pre-professional years with satisfactory scholastic standing, students have to go through an interview process in order to continue their study into professional years. The third to the sixth year is called Professional years since the classes are taught by the School of Pharmacy faculty.
