[edit] Design
The station is designed with a traditional Malay roof structure and shape, but using modern materials such as steel beams, similar to that of the Eunos Bus Interchange. This is to provide a sense of identity to the area, as Eunos bus interchange lies close to Geylang Serai and the Malay Village.
This station, along with Tanah Merah Interchange, are the only elevated stations on the Eastern part of the East West Line with a different style of architecture from the other stations, which have a white round semicircle-shaped roof.

On January 23 2007, a man was knocked down by an eastbound train at this station, causing disruption of services from Aljunied MRT Station to Tanah Merah MRT Station.[1]
