Eurasia (Nineteen Eighty-Four)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eurasia is one of three superstates in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the others being Eastasia and Oceania. Eurasia comprises all of mainland Europe, modern day Russia, and a fluctuating amount of Manchuria, Mongolia, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. Its political ideology is Neo-Bolshevism. Eurasia has been at war with both Eastasia and Oceania. It is implied that Eurasia was formed from the Soviet Union. The war with Eurasia was actually a hoax to use up resources and keep the population in line (revealed in Goldstein's Book). Neither side actually wanted to win. And when the Party suddenly switched sides, now at war with Eastasia, the government blamed Goldstein. The people then banded around their govenment, percieving an imaginary threat. The Party repeated this process every few years to keep the public relatively loyal to Ingsoc and Oceania.
