Express (company)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Express is an American clothing company owned by Limited Brands. Express was predominantly a women's clothing company at 2/3 the profit coming from women's clothing sales. However in early 2000, the Structure brand (another Limited Brands company) was consolidated into the company as Express Men.
Structure, a brand of euro-urban clothing, began as a line carried in Express stores. By 1993, the line became so popular that the Limited started a new store carrying the name of the line Structure. Limited Brands then created a separate internal group to handle the market for Structure and Express clothing. This group was called "StructureCo."
In 2001, StructureCO began closing stores in West Coast locations and integrated them into newer Express stores that in many locations, contained a women's and men's section (as Express Men) in early 2000. The Structure line was discontinued but then later purchased by Sears in 2003.
As a brand, Express is oriented toward fashion-forward, contemporary apparel and accessory styles with a primary target age group between 20 and 27 years old.
Their clothing is designed at their design studio at 111 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan's Flatiron District. As of August 2006, Express operates 700 stores throughout the United States with annual net sales over $2 billion.
