The continued insertion of a fair use film screenshot in any other article than the film itself without it being alongside a commentary about the passage of the film to which the image relates is quite frankly nonsense. In this case continuing to insist that making this a better place is more important than following rules cannot be supported, particularly if it looks like editors seem happy to break the three revert rule it to boot. As a side comment, if I wanted to have a chance of recognising Pete in the street today, which picture would be the more helpful, it'd be the most recent one.--Alf melmac 11:11, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
That first sentence doesn't even say anything. You have to back shit like that up; in the real world you're not allowed to make retarded statements like that without major justification until you reach upper management. Your second sentence makes me sick. Sick to my stomach, do you understand? You think that making the encyclopedia a better place is _less_ important than following nonsensical rules?? You really think that??? I can feel stomach acid backing up into my esophagus. I hope you're happy. And do you think the purpose of an encyclopedia is to help you recognize people in the street?? Christ, go buy a copy of Entertainment Weekly if you want to ogle celebrities while they shop for groceries. 152.3.46.147 17:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry how the first sentence not say anything and then need backing up? All I am saying that there is no way on this earth that the use of a film screenshot in anything other than an article about the film/tv programme is acceptable against a free use image and that you are in danger of getting blocked for exceeeding the three-revert rule. Street/TV/Show/ Wherever - you purposefully miss the point there and digress - the purpose of any encyclopedia should be to give the most up to date content. I don't have an objection to seeing that photo elsewhere - provided it's backed up by being actually mentioned in the text. If editing the encyclopedia makes you sick to the stomach maybe you'd better not then, but then I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it.--Alf melmac 19:48, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
The purpose of an encyclopedia is not "to provide the most up to date content", it's to convey "the most relevant accumulated knowledge on that subject or discipline, given the overall length of the particular work." (Encyclopedia) And your second sentence is still blind following of rules. I'd like you to explain to me WHY the use of a film screenshot is such a taboo in any article not about the film. I guarantee you there's nothing in any law anywhere that states that, so it's not like there's a danger of legal trouble if you use a film screenshot someplace else where it is informative. 152.3.46.147 23:36, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
We can argue down the side roads until the cows come home, lets stay on target. Please do not expect those given a position of trust to blindsight what's been openly placed in their path (particularly when their personal belief is at variance with policy), you can call me a pack hound until my dying day, I won't put your, my or anyone else's 'personal expertise' in front of the consensus based policy that has been arrived here, even if that means a nice piece of otherwise decent info cannot be included because it has not appeared in a reliable secondary source and so cannot be cited, or as in this case - what is considered a better photo cannot be used in deference to that photo considered not as good, for other policy based reasons, etc. What I will not stop advocating that is that a better and more practical approach is to include it as well as the other photo, but alongside text which would support, explain and put the picture into context, then the current policies will have been satiated - it appears to be a 'classic era' shot, I believe it would be better to use it to illustrate that section of text about him, rather than have it in the infobox instead of the free one. You may prefer however to continue to rail against the system, in which case I strongly urge you to take your energy somewhere where it stands a cats hope in hell of making a difference, like on the relevant policy pages.--Alf melmac 20:02, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
The discussion has been linked from the relevant policy talk page, so unless Wikipedians lack the attention span to remember what they're discussing through the time required for a page load, at least some of them should see it. As for "concensus-based policy", you *have* seen all the people bitching about the policy, right? You remember, in the lead-up to its implementation, how many people did their damnedest to resist it? You call that a concensus? More like a few at the top got unreasonably scared of being sued, and decided fair use was just not allowed, no questions asked, no special cases considered, no thought necessary. 152.3.46.147 21:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Continued reinsertion of the non-free use image in Pete Townshend

Hi, I think you have made your point quite clear - ie that you disagree with the fair use criteria. If you want to change this policy you need to do it on Wikipedia talk:Fair use, not by continually reinserting the image. I follow the rules on Wikipedia because that is how it works best. When I come across policies or guidelines I disagree with (and it happens) then there are forums I can argue them in. If you keep altering the article to your view of how the rules should be, it is inevitable that your IP will be blocked to save other editors from having to undo your changes. This would be a disappointing outcome. Please give it some thought. Thanks, AntiVan 03:07, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Whatever, I give up trying to make this a better website. Go beat your head against a wall. 152.3.46.147 03:10, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
