- June 24 - Last person put on pillory in England - Peter Bossey, in addition to 6 months in prison and seven years of penal transportation to Australia
- June 26 - William IV succeeds George IV as King.
- August 28 - Machine-breaking Swing Riots break out in Kent and spread across southern and eastern England.
- August 31 - Edwin Beard Budding is granted a patent for the invention of lawnmower.
- September 15 - Liverpool and Manchester Railway opened (world's first intercity passenger railway operated solely by steam locomotives).
- November 22 - The Whig Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey succeeds Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (see also Grey Ministry.)
- Charles Lyell publishes the first volume of his influential book Principles of Geology.
