In 1947, when the first Little League World Series of Baseball was played, there were seventeen leagues in two states.
Williamsport, Pennsylvania defeated Lock Haven, Pennsylvania 16 to 7
More than 2,500 spectators witnessed the first championship game in 1947, when the Williamsport team defeated the Lock Haven team to take home the trophy, and the results were printed in newspapers around the country.
