[edit] Footnotes
- ^ Clear declaration to defend the autonomy of sport
- ^ If Italy wins Euro 2008, the spot will be given to the World Cup runner-up,
France.
- ^ CONCACAF members
Mexico and the
United States have accepted invitations, but they would presumably not be allowed to represent CONMEBOL in the Confederations Cup should either win the Copa América. CONMEBOL has had such rules for previous editions, and similar ones at the club level for the Copa Libertadores.
- ^ a b In December 2004, FIFA decided that, starting with this edition, "the South American and European champions will no longer be obliged to take part". [1]
- ^ The OFC qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will double as the Nations Cup: the top team in the four-team final round (to be played home-and-away, 2007-2008) will be declared the Nations Cup champion, participate in the Confederations Cup and join the final round of AFC World Cup qualification.
