[edit] About the 440th Airlift Wing
The 440th Airlift Wing is based in the Southwest corner of General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee. It has been scheduled for realignment by Base Realignment and Closure ("BRAC"), and all 440th aircraft and a portion of current personnel will be reassigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina by September, 2007.
[edit] The 440th's Mission
The 440th Airlift Wing's mission in peacetime is to maintain readiness for its wartime mission of personnel and cargo movement and of combat formation airdrop of cargo and personnel. The wing regularly trains by airdropping equipment at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin and practicing short field landings at various airlfields in Wisconsin.
