8 Flight Army Air Corps

8 Flight Army Air Corps is one of the Independent Flights within the British Army's Army Air Corps. 8 Flight is attached to the British Army's main special forces unit; 22 Special Air Service Regiment. Like the SAS they are based together in Hereford. The flight provides the SAS with their own light Special Operations Aviation support.
8 Flight AAC is also thought to support the SAS in the Counter-Terrorism role.
It is made up of 4 Agusta A109 helicopters and two Aérospatiale Gazelle helicopters. Two of the Agustas were captured from the Argentines in the Falklands War in 1982 and the other two were bought brand-new, after the war. The helicopters are painted in civilian colours (which are regularly changed) and are designed to be used in missions such as the Iranian Embassy Siege.
