Almondsbury Interchange
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Almondsbury Interchange is one of the UK's largest motorway interchanges, spanning a range of 0.5km by 0.5km. It is the interchange for the M5 motorway and M4 motorway, and is situated at the northern fringes of Bristol close to the village of Almondsbury, the Aztec West industrial estate, and Bradley Stoke. It is junction number 20 on the M4 and number 15 on the M5.
It was the first four-level interchange in the United Kingdom.[1] The interchange was built by Richard Costain Ltd, with work commencing in May 1964. The bridge was opened by the Queen in September 1966.[2]
It is often a traffic hot-spot, especially in the morning and evening rush hours.
