Alsager Cricket Club

Alsager Cricket Club now nicknamed the "Alsager Atoms" was formed in 1874, and are members of the Cheshire County League. There latest success was the win in the Coors Twenty20 cup final. They have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th team and also have many successful youth teams. The club captain for the past 2 seasons has been Steve Armitage and has now recently been replaced with Simon Dyer who was signed from Leek earlier in the 2006 season. The overseas proffesional for the past 3 years had been Ashwin Punja from India. But the 2007 season overseas is Australian Rohan Wight who plays his cricket in the southern hemisphere for North Canberra.

The Alsager 1st team has an exciting blend of players some that re home grown and others from across the country. James Warrington is Alsager's opening bowler and at the age of 22 received his first cap for Cheshire. Ashwin Punja, the overseas from india was voted best player in the league last year and continues to pile on the runs in the 2006 season as he attempts to lift Alsager into promotion. Another International is Mushtaq Arshad, brother of Mushtaq Ahmed The leg spinner has taken a bagfull of wickets in the past and despite having offers from other clubs has stayed an atom. Other players include Gary and Paul Pickford, Ian Butcher and Grant goodwin.

Juniors
The junior section of Alsager C.C is expanding rapidly mainly to the thanks of Richard Bason. It runs an Under 9s, under 11s, under 13s, under 15's. Players such as James Warrington, Chris Welch and the Pickford brothers are all results of the Alsager youth firm and currently a fresh batch of players are coming through such as Dayle Stancliffe, Alex Perry and Matthew Freeman.

After a great season the Under 15's were unlucky to finish 2nd within there Kidsgrove Cricket League, with only 1 loss the Atoms were beaten by 2 points to the title by Porthill Park. The Under 13's had a very mixed seasonw tih wins over Nantwich and Elworth but also substantial losses which left them 5th in there league
