Alternate versions of cartoon characters

While most cartoons do not feature aging characters, there are some shows which show cartoon characters in a different form: they age, or they have a counterpart who is really similar to them, or they are found in an alternate universe. Some are found in cartoons, others are found in comics, video games, or, to a lesser extent, live action television series.

- Younger versions of cartoon characters, featuring established characters as babies, children and younger teenagers. Examples include Muppet Babies, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Jungle Cubs, Little Archie, Smallville, etc.
- Older versions of cartoon characters, featuring young characters as teenagers, pre-teenagers, or they increase their age by a year. Examples include The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, Quack Pack, Digimon Adventure 02.
- Junior versions of cartoon characters, featuring the kids or sidekicks of established characters like James Bond Jr., Donkey Kong Jr.
- Female versions of cartoon characters, featuring female counterparts like Supergirl, She-Ra: Princess of Power
- Cartoon Characters that star with their junior version, more like a father and son team like Droopy and Dripple, Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo, Popeye and Son
- Next generation of cartoon characters: Characters with no relation to particular characters but are inspired like Tiny Toon Adventures, Generation X
- Futuristic versions of cartoon characters: Characters seen in the future like Archie 3000, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, The Partridge Family 2200 A.D, Duck Dodgers
- Prehistoric versions of cartoon characters: Shows depecting established characters in the Stone Age like Archie 1
- Ancestors of cartoon characters: Shows depecting ancestors of established characters like The U.S of Archie
- Descendants of cartoon characters: like Loonatics Unleashed
- Foreign counterparts of cartoon characters: like Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z
- Pets of cartoon characters: like Krypto the Superdog
