From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apostrophe (from Greek αποστροφη, "turning away") can refer to several things:
- Apostrophe ( ’ ), a form of punctuation
- Apostrophe (figure of speech), an address to a person or personified object not present
- Apostrophe ('), an album by Frank Zappa
- Apostrophes (television), a French television show about literature
- Apostrophe (band), punk rock band from Turkey
- According to the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica, it was used "in physiology [...] more precisely in connection with its literal meaning, e.g. for movement away from the light, in the case of the accumulation of chlorophyll-corpuscles on the cells of leaves." However, there is no evidence of this use in modern language.
