Arbinger Institute

The Arbinger Institute is a management training & consulting firm and scholarly consortium, headquartered in the United States. Its work grows out of an important development in the human sciences – a solution to the age-old problem of self-deception. Arbinger trains professionals, organisations, families and care-giving organisations to address the common problem – self-deception – often faced, which can hold them back, both in performance and in productivity. It was founded by C. Terry Warner, whose research in the self-deception theory is the basis of Arbinger's training philosophy. Their unusual leadership theory focuses on how resolving the emotional aspects of a person can result in better work results rather than following a set of behavioural "leadership" dos & don'ts.
As a provider of solutions in people problems, Arbinger offers services like in-house training, arbitration, workshops, talks and books etc.

"Arbinger" is the ancient French spelling of the word "harbinger." It means "one that indicates or foreshadows what is to come; a forerunner."
[edit] The concept of Self-Deception
According to the teachings of Arbinger, self-deception affects people at home, at work and practically everyone across the globe. The concept of “self-deception” is based on three ideas:
1. I have a problem
2. I don’t know of this problem
3. When someone tells me of this problem, I deny
Thus, self-deception refers to the state of not knowing – and resisting the possibility -- that one has a problem.
In short, your biggest enemy is yourself.

Leadership and Self-Deception (2000)
Synopsis:
For too long, the issue of self-deception has been the realm of deep-thinking philosophers, academics, and scholars working on the central questions of the human sciences. The public remains generally unaware of the issue. That would be fine except that self-deception is so pervasive it touches every aspect of life. "Touches" is perhaps too gentle a word to describe its influence. Self-deception actually determines one's experience in every aspect of life. In addition, while Leadership and Self-Deception explored how to solve self-deception in oneself, The Anatomy of Peace goes beyond, and explores how to spread that solution among others.
