Area code 442
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
North American area code 442 is a proposed California telephone area code that may encompass much of the eastern portion of the state, and a great deal of Southern California. The area code may includes Imperial, Inyo, and Mono Counties, as well as portions of San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Kern Counties. Community officials and business leaders held meetings with telephone companies and the California Public Utilities Commission on whether these communities should accept or will not have the new area code. It is possible for metropolitian areas like San Diego, the Imperial Valley and the Coachella Valley to have 442 as an overlay area code. The proposed split will be decided late 2007 and if the split does takes effect, all phone prefixes in the new area code will convert to 442 by July 1, 2008.[citation needed]
