Arlberg Tunnels

The Arlberg Tunnels are two tunnels - one a railroad tunnel of the Arlberg Railway and the other a motor-traffic tunnel- in western Austria between the provinces of Vorarlberg and Tyrol. The tunnels run through the Arlberg massif at the northeastern end of the Rhaetian Alps.

The Railroad tunnel is 10.25 kilometres (6.4 miles) long and is an important link in the Paris to Vienna railroad. It opened in 1884 and was electrified in 1923.

The highway tunnel is 14 kilometres (8.7 miles) long and opened in 1978.
