The 3 arrondissements of the Doubs department are:
- Arrondissement of Besançon, (prefecture of the Doubs department: Besançon) with 17 cantons and 316 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 232,656 in 1990, and was 246,872 in 1999, an increase of 6.11%.
- Arrondissement of Montbéliard, (subprefecture: Montbéliard) with 13 cantons and 193 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 186,930 in 1990, and was 183,248 in 1999, a decrease of 1.97%.
- Arrondissement of Pontarlier, (subprefecture: Pontarlier) with 5 cantons and 85 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 65,184 in 1990, and was 68,942 in 1999, an increase of 5.77%.
