[edit] the port kembla mushroom tunnels
Port kembla is a suburb of wollongong in the illawarra region of new south wales Australia. It is the home of lare steel works that are considered notable industries in the australian east coast area. Therefore it was considered by the australian government in world war II to be a considered target of the japanese. The government thus chose the largest hill in the area, (known as hill sixty due to its military significance), as an army fortress and base. There is a lookout and dock to be located there, but the most significant sign of military presence in the area is the semi-subterranean fortress that has now come to be known as the mushroom tunnels due to the fact that-because it was deserted after world war II-has become dark and musty, and the perfect environment for mushrooms which grow there in abundance. It is now graffiti ridden, rubbish strewn, a breeding place for rats, and a hive for gangs of surfers who use it as a dark retreat from the rough surf of fishermans beach which borders onto the Pacific Ocean.

[edit] Byzantine Iconographer renders historic icons
"Bringing Eastern Mysticism to a western world" Damianakis, the world's premier Byzantine artist, has been a pioneer in Byzantine art movement since 1980. This painter, sculptor, and muralist is one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of our time. To date, in addition to his spectacular paintings of a wide variety of Christian Orthodoxy, Damianakis has completed more than 500 works and landmark murals, throughout the World. He has more than 100 collectors of his work on four continents, and perhaps more than any other artist, he perpetuates the spiritual consciousness of Christianity through his Orthodox Art and Christian model.
Biography
Elias Damianakis, born and raised in New York, USA, currently resides in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida. He and his wife Angela have been blessed with two wonderful children.
Elias was a skillful artisan before he began his twelve year training as an apprentice for the traditional old world Iconographic techniques. Seeking traditional art training Elias studied at several universities in the United States including: C. W. Post College of Fine Arts 1981-82, Parsons School of Design 1982-3, F.I.T. (Fashion Institute of technology in NY) 1983-84, Queens College 1984-86 but not finding the ancient artistic traditions of Orthodoxy Elias ventured to Europe and collaborated, consulted and trained with many artists and iconographers abroad. Elias spent many months at a time tutoring in Europe with the leading old world master artists in private studios and at various monasteries, splitting his time between Europe and the United States.
Elias through the years has made extensive trips for study and pilgrimage to Greece, Turkey, France, Yugoslavia and Italy. His studies in Greece were detailed taking him throughout the 'four corners' of Greece. These travels are not merely vacation but a spiritual odyssey, venerating and meditating on holy individuals, places and events.
In Greece, he has spent considerable time on the Holy Island of Lesbos or Mytilini [particular emphasis at Saint Raphael in Thermi, Saint Andrew of Crete in Eressos, Taxiarchi in Madamados Saint Ignatios in Kalloni and Saint Theodore in Mytilini], Meteora and in the surrounds of Athens but has also studied on Chios [Nea Moni, Megas Taxiarch and Saint Markella], Crete, Tinos, Kalymnos, Zakynthos. Patras, Mystra, Thassaloniki, Evia [particular emphasis at Saint John the Russian, Osios David and Paniaghia diniou], Panormitis, Symi and the list goes on, a significant commitment of time and finances to the study of his art.
In Turkey, his travels (over a dozen times) has scrutinize the Byzantine monuments and venerated the holy relics in Constantinople (Istanbul), Nicea, Smyrna, Aivali, Moskonissia, Troy, Clolosea, Halki, Chalcedon and beyond. Three particular pilgrimages are noteworthy in 2000 during the Patriarchal Millenium synod as a delegate, in 2004 the momentous "Return of the holy relics" of Saint John Chrysostom and Saint Gregory the Theolgian and in 2006 for the Historic visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict to the Patriarchate. As a pilgrim, a student of Byzantine art or as an official delegate representing the Orthodox of America Elias has a strong commitment to the Mother church of Orthodoxy and the Holy Patriarchate of Constantinople.
In 1991 Elias established his own iconography studio blending his fine artistic talents with the discipline and humble work of iconography. He adheres to strict Orthodox prototypes. While he examines the traditional prototypes in study and prayer, assimilating this analysis into his iconography, rendering anew with exceptional beauty and warmth. The same may be said for genuine Byzantine masters of old who, while faithful and respectfully reproducing their models, infused their work with the individuality of their enlightened talent. The sensitive quality of Elias’s work resonates with such renewed vitality it enables, enhances and engages its beholder. By means of his brush strokes he gives his iconographic compositions inner beauty and embellishes their appearance with decorative characteristics which are wholly personal and sublime in inspiration.
With the technique of a gifted servant, Elias hand paints portable icons for private devotion as well as large wall murals to suit the needs of the individual or community. He incorporates various techniques into his work including egg tempera, fresco, secco, gold gilding and produces his own paints from pigments. He renders complete restoration of portable icons and wall murals.
Elias lives his faith and understands his ministry as an Orthodox Iconographer working in the United States. He is currently accepting commissions for iconography for Orthodox communities and laity.
Elias is a man of talent, integrity and devotion.

[edit] IFB (Insulated Foam Board) Fitting, CNC (Computer Neumerical Control) Machine
Pre-fitting machine - IFB Construction
Construction of an Insulated Foam Board duct component consists of; layout, measuring, cutting, adhesion, folding, taping and final assembly. Components are laid out on the surface with makers and common measuring tools. The lines are then cut with
knives and razors. Bend lines are cut to approximately 45 degrees- as close as the operator can visually "eye-ball". Glue is then applied to the cuts; the component is then folded and exposed cut lines are taped. The exposed cut lines on the interior of the IFB component are covered with a sealant. The remaining ends of the component segments are capped with flanges. Between adjacent component flanges, gaskets are placed helping produce the air tight seal.
What's the IFB Fitting Machine?
The Fittings Machine is a computer controlled (CNC) milling machine designed to cut IFB. The machine is equipped with software relieving IFB contractors from the burden of manually laying out duct components on IFB. Fittings that are suitable to IFB are stored in the computerized "brain". A menu becomes available to the user as fitting are available and sizes are adjusted according to the needs of the project. A three-dimensional, pan-able, visual graphic is used on the computer screen ensures the operator the intended output, therefore eliminating waste. More Waste is eliminated by calculating the most efficient use of IFB sheet and "nests" parts. The high speed cutting machine relieves any IFB contractors from the timely burden of hand cutting non-linear geometry and the need of special miter cutting equipment for linear duct segments. The cutter composed of tungsten carbide, custom designed for the uniqueness of cutting IFB. The Computer control moves the cutter to tolerances that are significantly more precise and accurate than other IFB manufacturing equipment. The surface finish of the miter produced is bar-none, allowing for maximum adhesion during assembly.
Computer Numerical Controlled Insulated Foam Board Fitting Machine Practicality
Plasma cutters made from multiple manufacturers are excellent sources of cutting a pre-designed structure to save time and money on men and materials. However with the addition of CNC on the plasma cutter and HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Cooling) advantages of cutting and forming IFB creates a much more practical advantage over both machines and increases simplicity of combined uses of the cutting machines (CNC, Plasma). Computer aided fitting of the IFB and cutting of the material creates an atmosphere with much greater control of the outcome than by hand and complete reliability of the computer program's correctness.
