[edit] About Ashrah
Despite having the appearance of an elegant and attractive woman, Ashrah is actually a demon from the Netherealm. She was once a member of Quan Chi's Brotherhood of Shadow, which worshipped the fallen Elder God Shinnok. Ashrah dresses completely in white and appears as a tall, mysterious woman. Her appearance is a blend between aristocracy and innocence. She made her first appearance in Mortal Kombat: Deception. Her occupation is that of a demon hunter. Ashrah's weapon of choice is her Kriss, which is is believed to have been "blessed" or is of a "heavenly origin." The Kriss is blessed in such a way that every demon she kills with it causes her to become more human and less demon like. Through this, she can leave the Netherrealm.

One day, Ashrah refused to carry out one of Quan Chi's orders. In response, he sent her sister (a fellow member of the Brotherhood of Shadow) to kill her. While escaping her would-be assassin in the Netherealm, she found a holy sword known as a Kriss. As she learned how to wield the blade, slaying Netherealm demons with it, Ashrah began to recognize that the sword progressively cleansed her spirit of evil with each one she killed. She then resolved to liberate herself from her inherent malevolent nature by using the Kriss to eliminate the evil within her. Each demon that she slays brings her closer to her goal of purification and her eventual expulsion from the Netherealm, as that dimension cannot sustain anyone with a soul containing such purity.
She has allied herself with Shujinko in the past, teaching him demon slaying techniques. At one time, she came into conflict with Ermac. Mistakenly considering him to be a demon, she attempted to kill him and lost. She seeks to destroy Noob Saibot, whom she considers to be a powerful demon, as doing so would enable her to complete her ascension.
In Ashrah's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ending, defeating Blaze fully cleanses her soul, making her become the very essence of purity. The forces of evil around her would become purified. She used this power to purify all evil, including the one who would have her dead, Quan Chi.[1]

- Heavenly Light: Ashrah fires a white projectile. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)
- Lightning Blast: Ashrah fires a projectile into the air, that crashes down on the opponent. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)
- Spin Cycle: Ashrah spins in a circle. Upon impact, the opponent is sent flying.(MK:D,MK:U, MK:A)
- Nature's Torpedo: Ashrah flies missile-like into the opponent while spinning, similar to Raiden's Flying Thunder God attack. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)

When the first bits of information about Mortal Kombat: Deception began to surface, Ashrah was mistaken as a female version of Raiden. Her name also used to be spelled Ashra or Ashrah alternatively.
Ashrah is something of a departure from the series' regular character design as she is the first female character since Sonya to not wear skimpy or revealing clothes during her tenure, with her garb being quite modest compared to the others. However, her alternate Deception outfit is revealing and is similar to the clothing of other female characters in the Mortal Kombat series. According to the description of this costume given in Armageddon's Krypt, it was intentionally designed to be a "sexier" alternative to her heavily clothed primary costume.

- Ashrah is a female Arabic name, which means "ten". The name is a pun on the deity Asherah, variously viewed as benevolent and demonic by Semitic cultures.
- Ashrah's hat resembles a gasa, one worn by Japanese priests.
- Her weapon, the Kriss, resembles Liu Kang's Dragon Sword from Mortal Kombat 4.
