Aunt Polly's Soliloquy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Aunt Polly's Soliloquy" is a song from the film (Tom Sawyer), written by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman. The music is arranged by John Williams.
In the film the song is sung by Celeste Holm as "Aunt Polly".
The song is a reprise of the title song. The title song is a three part counterpoint sung by "Aunt Polly" (Celeste Holm), "Cousin Sidney" (Joshua Hill Lewis) and "Cousin Mary" (Susan Joyce); respectively. In "Aunt Polly's Soliloquy", however, the piece conjoins various sections of each counterpoint part as she debates the different aspects (both good and bad) of her nephew, Tom's personality.
The Sherman Brothers and John Williams share an Oscar nomination for "Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Score for Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy.[1]
