AustinMUD
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AustinMUD is Denmark's oldest MUD. It got its name from the initial server it was located at, the servers there all had names from the American capitals.
AustinMUD was started at Datalogisk Afdeling (Computer science department) at Århus Universitet (DAIMI) in 1991 by a group of students who created it based on the structure known as DIKU (Datalogisk Institut ved Københavns Universitet) (the computer science institute by Copenhagen University) by the place it was created. The game was hosted here for a couple of years, but since moved to the other side of the university campus to Institut for Informations- og Medievidenskab (IMV) (the institute for information and media science). It then moved to PRG at DTU, http://austin.prg.dtu.dk. where it remained for quite a few years.
AustinMUD has, as many other textbased games, suffered a loss of playerbase, to other more graphical games such as World of Warcraft, and because of aggressive administration which was not always popular amongst the players, but AustinMUD is still alive and kicking. The game was offline from mid September 2005 to December 14th 2005 when it found a new home at www.austinmud.com where you now can connect through using - Telnet www.austinmud.com 4000.
