Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg

Dr. Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg is a contemporary Torah scholar and author. A native of Glasgow, Scotland[1], Zornberg is a descendant of well known rabbis from Eastern Europe who settled in Austria. Zornberg's family fled Austria during the collapse of Jewish life and subsequent genocide of the holocaust. Zornberg holds a PhD from Cambridge University in English Literature.[2]
Beginning her teaching career roughly around 1980[1], Zornberg has grown to world acclaim through her writing and teaching of biblical commentary on the books of the Torah. She has lectured and taught internationally[2] and has appeared on PBS[3] (the American television Public Broadcasting Service) in a film on the Book of Genesis. She has currently published two books regarding her thoughts, theories, and commentaries on the books of Genesis (The Beginning of Desire)[3] and Exodus (The Particulars of Rapture: Reflections on Exodus).[4]

Dr. Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg is a contemporary Torah scholar and author. Raised in Glasgow, Scotland[1], Zornberg is a descendant of well known rabbis from Eastern Europe. Zornberg's parents fled Austria during the collapse of Jewish life after the Nazi takeover, just before the genocide of the holocaust in which most of her family perished. Zornberg holds a PhD from Cambridge University in English Literature.[2] She taught English literature at Hebrew University in Jerusalem from 1969 to 1976.
