azoth? i wanted to look up this woed to see if it really existed. iguess so. i first came of the word azoth by the video game Haunting Ground and the defintion gose un remarkibly w/ the whole story line of the game. it's incredible. in the game it is refered to as the "essence of life" and i have come to wonder if it is true. if any one else thinks so... please, contribute to this page and make the word azoth a weel known, defintion. thanx!
- I'm sure there are probably some more historical occult/alchemic uses for the term than what I added, which I could try to find again. I guess you're lucky I added this entry when I did, previously it was just a redirect to the element Mercury, which doesn't do much for describing the word's meaning as it is. - An azoth is a sword-like energy weapon in The Book of the Long Sun series by Gene Wolfe.
- Azoth is also used in the video game Haunting Ground. The game has components of alchemy, horror, and strategy. The main character (Fiona Belli) is the wielder of the Azoth, and is chased by various characters who want to extract the Azoth within her, all for several different, but none the less selfish, reasons. It is referred to as the "essence of life" and also has some things to do with the God Stone and the staff of Caduceus. Alchemy is a big part in this game.
- In the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, Azoth is the name of a Level 4 dagger-type weapon that can only be equipped by Alchemists and has the ability of transforming a regular monster into another kind of monster.
- In the video game Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny, Azoth is the name of a particular kind of alchemical creation: a magical, sentient sword that holds the power to potentially destroy anything. The game's hero, Felt, wields the benevolent Azure Azoth, while the villain Chaos wields the malevolent Crimson Azoth. In the Japanese version of the game, Felt's sword was named the Shinso (or "ancestral") Azoth.
- In the video game Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Azoth is the name of a spell used by Ezel Berbier which causes the status effect Sleep on all enemy characters.
- In the murder mystery Tokyo Zodiac Murders, Azoth is the name of the 'supreme woman' supposedly created by Heikichi Umezawa just before he was murdered. According to his suicide note, Azoth was allegedly made from the dismembered bodies of his nieces whom he also murdered.
- Azoth is the dagger in Fate/Stay Night which is given to a magician once they graduate from the magic academy. In the anime Kotomine Kirie gives Tohsaka the Azoth dagger after she graduates from the magic academy 10 years before the 5th Holy Grail war. Later Tohsaka gives Emiya Shirou Azoth with which he kills Kotomine with.
- In the roleplaying game Promethean: The Created, Azoth is a mystical force that motivates the eponymous Prometheans, a race of artificial beings striving to become fully human.
- In the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, a variation of the Caduceus, the symbol for azoth, is seen on the main character, Edward Elric's clothing, and on his brother's (Alphonse Elric) armor, and in Dante's house. The brothers' main goal throughout the series is to find the Philosopher's Stone.
