[edit] History
The club was founded in 1998 as the Washington Eagles.
The Baltimore Washington Eagles began with a game in early 1999 between teams from the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC and Australia expatriates living in nearby Baltimore, Maryland. The joint side that was formed from that game was immediately competitive, garnering a division two premiership at that year's USAFL National Championships in Cincinnati, OH. The Eagles continue to be strong, having sent teams to every USAFL nationals, as well as hosting the tournament in 2001.
In October 2006, the Eagles won the division two premiership at the USAFL national tournament in Las Vegas. [1]
[edit] Metro League
The Eagles support a Metro Footy league, Baltimore Washington Eagles Metro Competition with teams representing Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. The teams play a round-robin style season, culminating in a Metro Grand Final. This grand final is typically played in October immediately following the USAFL Nationals.
[edit] Social
The social aspect of Australian rules football played in the United States is a key component of the popularity of the club. Special events include a live broadcast party of the AFL Grand Final, as well as annual paintball and golf tournaments, white water rafting trips and a pub quiz fundraiser night.
