Barolong

Barolong is a clan name for the Batswana living in North West in South Africa. There are different clans in the Batswana clans. Barolong(Mafikeng),Bahurutshe(Zeerust):Bangwatu(Botswana),Bakgatlha and Bakwena(Rustenburg)etc. Barolong boo rra Tshidi are based within Mafikeng.
Other Barolong settlements are found in Lotlhakane and Thaba Nchu (Barolong ba ga Moroka). Barolong Chiefs Moroka (James Moroka) and Dr Silas Molema (Molema's are the traditional uncles of the Barolong boo Ratshidi)played a key role in formation of liberation movement (ANC).
When in Barolong villages you can expect warm hospitality accompanied by music (mostly voice singing, drums, flutes and horns sound)and poetry. Food is also unique. You will not find food such as Ting (sour sorghum porrige, tshotlho (pronounced chotlho, Dikgobe and others.
