Baumholder

Baumholder is a town and a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated south of the Hunsrück, approx. 10 km south of Idar-Oberstein.
Baumholder is also the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") Baumholder, which consists of the following Ortsgemeinden ("local municipalities"):

Baumholder is home to the largest concentration of American combat soldiers outside the United States. The installation consists of Smith Barracks, which is the main post, and the base operations area support teams of Strassburg in Idar-Oberstein and Neubrücke, near Birkenfeld. Baumholder also is home to one of the largest firing ranges in Western Germany.
