[edit] Biography
Bayside formed in Bayside, NY during the winter of 2000, drawing from influences as diverse as The Smiths, Smoking Popes, and Nirvana, to the Cure, Stevie Wonder and Nick Drake. The band began touring, gaining support slots with bands such as Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday and The Used. Brooklyn, New York's Dying Wish Records signed the band and released their first EP, Long Stories Short in 2001.
Bayside continued touring throughout 2001/02, including appearances at the Asbury Park Skate and Surf Fest 2002, Birmingham's Furnace Fest in 2002 and 2003, and a two week stint on the 2002 Vans Warped Tour. In the Spring of 2003 Bayside released their second record on Dying Wish Records, a split with California's Name Taken. The song Loveless Wrists was used for the bands first video, and is available on the rerelease of the CD.
Bayside signed with Victory Records in 2003, and released their debut album for the label, "Sirens and Condolences", on January 27 2004. A video was filmed for the song Masterpiece.
In the fall of 2004, the band began planning their new album. Singer/guitarist/lyricist Anthony remembers, “We made a really conscious decision to work with producers that no one else in our scene were using – it seems like the same ten producers are doing all the albums and it shows. We found Shep and Kenny, who are well known for their work with acts like Mandy Moore, Aaron Carter, Leann Womack and Paulina Rubio; while it’s a huge departure from that world, after meeting with them we felt that they understood what we were looking for.” The album was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Studios.
The band elected to self-title the album in part due to the contributions of Ghanbarian and Holohan. “Nick and John are two of the best musicians I have ever played with, we named the album “Bayside” because with them in the band, we are one unit and we wanted to reflect that,” Anthony said. Bayside’s emotional intensity, lyrical honesty and solid musicianship coalesced on this remarkable new album. This marked Bayside's introduction into the Billboard Top 200 Chart debuting at #153.
On October 31, 2005, at approximately 3:13 AM in Cheyenne, WY, after leaving their Boulder, Colorado show, Bayside's tour van hit a patch of ice, skidded off the road, and flipped over. Drummer John "Beatz" Holohan was killed and Nick Ghanbarian was seriously injured. Anthony and Jack luckily escaped with minor injuries. Bayside rejoined the "Never Sleep Again" tour, which included Aiden, Hawthorne Heights and Silverstein, on November 16th at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg, FL, with Anthony and Jack playing acoustic sets and played through the end of the tour.
An acoustic album, Acoustic CD/DVD was released due to popular demand. This album features the track "Winter" which is written in memory of John "Beatz" Holohan. This song features very personal lyrics. The band spent only 2 days at the Chicago Recording Company recording the record, which would go on to peak at #200 on the Billboard Top 200.
Bayside is currently promoting their new album, entitled The Walking Wounded. Shep and Kenny were signed on to produce the album which began tracking on October 15th in Queens, NY and finished December 2nd. The Walking Wounded was released on February 6th, 2007. The album debuted at #75 on the Billboard 200 with 13,000 copies sold.[1] Bayside released a track from The Walking Wounded via their MySpace and PureVolume pages, titled The Walking Wounded. The first single released to be taken from The Walking Wounded is titled "Duality" a sample of the track can be heard via AbsolutePunk.net. A U.S tour promoting The Walking Wounded is slated to start February 5th, 2007 with Anberlin, Meg & Dia, and Jonezetta; U.K tour is scheduled to start April 13, 2007 with Moneen as well. On May 5th, 2007 Bayside will be performing on this years Bamboozle Festival in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in New Jersey.
