Bear Island is a novel (published 1971) by Alistair MacLean. Bjørnøya is featured as the titular island. Bear Island is the last of MacLean's novels to be written in first-person narrative.
It was later made into a 1979 movie starring Donald Sutherland, Richard Widmark, Vanessa Redgrave, and Christopher Lee. However, the film was shot in Canada and Alaska, and the scenery does not at all resemble that of Bjørnøya.
