Benny Ziffer (born 1953), an Israeli author and journalist, was born in Tel Aviv to Heinz and Nira Ziffer, a pioneer couple who immigrated to Israel from Turkey in 1949. Since 1988, he has been the literary editor of Haaretz daily newspaper, one of the most important Hebrew language newspapers. He has published three novels: Turkish March (Hebrew for 'Rondo alla Turka')(1995), Ziffer and his Kind (1999) and The Literary Editor's Progress (2005).
His novels deal with gay life in modern Israel and with the life and culture of Judeo-Turkish immigrants.
Apart from his novels, which are considered breakthrough controversial literature in Israeli culture, he has also translated various novels and poetry from French.
Ziffer's popularity has increased since 2004 when he started publishing a political-cultural column in Haaretz dealing with television and the way it reflects contemporary Israeli life.
