Bernard Fanning (born 15 August 1969) is an Australian musician best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Powderfinger.
He went to St. Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, Brisbane; after completing high school he decided to join a band.
After Powderfinger released their greatest hits collection, Fingerprints: The Best of Powderfinger, 1994-2000 in 2004, they decided to take a break from recording and touring. Fanning released a successful solo album in October 2005, called Tea and Sympathy which debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Albums chart. The lead single "Wish You Well" was followed by the new single "Songbird". Powderfinger have said they will return with a new album in February 2007.[citation needed]
On January 26, 2006 "Wish You Well" was voted in at #1 on Australian youth radio station Triple J's 2005 Hottest 100 poll. Fanning won two ARIA awards in 2006: Album of the Year and Best Male Artist. He also produced Andrew Morris' solo album, Little By Little, in 2004.
Fanning appeared in the 2003 film Ned Kelly as a musical performer in the bar.
