I am a user who lives in São Carlos, São Paulo State, Brazil. My major interests are Geography and Botany (especially the Lauraceae Family). In my opinion Botany is scientia amabilis and not cladonomy. The title scientia amabilis refers to the Swedish botanist Carl von Linné and to his naming of botany as the loveable science.
I would like to congratulate Wikipedia, the unique really novel institution of the Third Millenium. Wikipedia represents the third shockwave in the age of information. The first was Internet and second WWW. I believe that Wikipedia is a very important source of information, but there is a very serious problem with intransigent editors that are considered "owners" (see WP:OWN) of certain articles for themselves, compromising seriously the neutrality, which is one of five pillars of Wikipedia!
Furthermore there is the serious problem of the digital maoism, after Jaron Lanier (who coined the term "virtual reality" in 1987, according to Britannica Encyclopaedia): "No, the problem is in the way the Wikipedia has come to be regarded and used; how it's been elevated to such importance so quickly. And that is part of the larger pattern of the appeal of a new online collectivism that is nothing less than a resurgence of the idea that the collective is all-wise, that it is desirable to have influence concentrated in a bottleneck that can channel the collective with the most verity and force. This is different from representative democracy, or meritocracy." Lanier, Jaron. "Digital Maoism: The Hazards of the New Online Collectivism", Edge, 2006-05-30.
But I firmly believe and I hope that Freedom and Justice will triumph.

The more userboxes you have, the less likely I'll read any of them. |
