Bess (Ga'Hoole)

Bess is a character from the New York Times best-selling series Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky.
This Boreal Owl was first mentioned in the first Guardians of Ga'Hoole book, The Capture. She is Grimble's daughter, and was referred to by him as "Little Bess" since her father had not seen her since she was a hatchling. Supposedly, after Grimble was imprisoned in the St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls, Bess and her mother mysteriously disappeared.
Bess has not yet made an actual appearance in the books, but her story is told to Coryn by the Band in Book 12, The Golden Tree. After Grimble died, Bess took his body to the Palace of Mists in the Shadow Forest to mourn him and help to send his spirit directly to glaumora, the owl heaven. She now inhabits the Palace of Mists, and has become so wise and clever that she is also called "the Knower".
