Beth Shields Middle School

Beth Shields Middle School is located on 19th Avenue NE in Ruskin, Florida.
The school is named in honor of Hillsborough County educator Kathryn Elizabeth "Beth" Shields (December 24, 1937–February 18, 2006). Shields was a graduate of Hillsborough High School in 1955, and a graduate of the University of Tampa in 1959. She taught math at Memorial Junior High and transferred to Plant High School as a math teacher. She earned a masters degree in math from the University of South Florida. Shields was the dean of girls at Robinson High School and was assistant principal at Robinson, principal of Coleman Junior High School, principal at Plant High School, and assistant superintendent of personnel, assistant superintendent of instruction and deputy superintendent of Hillsborough County school system, for a total career of 44 years in the Hillsborough County school system.
