Blast (Venue)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blast is Ireland's largest alternative youth community and event promoter. It organises concerts in Dublin,Athlone, Cork, Clare, Drogheda, Dundalk, Derry, Galway, Gorey, Kilkenny, Mullingar, Navan, Limerick, Sligo, Waterford, Thurles, and Swords.
Blast gigs tend to consist of five or six young bands, mostly metal, pop punk, punk rock or emo, each playing sets roughly half an hour long. The events draw large crowds of kids from the emo sub-culture, due to the alcohol-free, all-ages nature of the gigs.
Blast also organises a national battle of the bands called Blast:beat which is sponsored by Coca-Cola. The winner of the battle of the bands wins a album contract with the Blast Beat Label. Home Star Runner, Steer Clear, And Emily have already been signed to this label
Blast tends to be seen as the only way for young bands to get gigs and many bands dislike it for that reason, they believe that the athmosphere is dead and the gig-goers are poseurs
