Blood of Heroes was a superhero role-playing game published by Pulsar Games. It was a successor to DC Heroes and used that game's Mayfair Exponential Game System, or MEGS. However, unlike its predecessor, Blood of Heroes is set in its own fictional world, rather than the DC universe.
The system featured a comparative style of mechanics where Acting Attributes would be compared to Opposing Attributes on one chart, then Effect Attributes would be compared to Resistance Attributes on a linked chart. Since superhero games, and the speculation of which superhero could best another by comic book fans, were highly comparative in nature, (ie:Superman is stronger than Supergirl) this system was sensible and generally well received. It was a point based system starting with a base of 450 Hero Points to create a character, which would allow the player to design a character typical to sidekick power levels. In the system there was the easy option to increase this amount by 450 point amounts to make more powerful characters. Unlike the DC Heroes game, this increase did not also increase the costs of Advantages and Drawbacks, a change which reflected the way most fans played DC Heroes and made Gadget and Connection-based heroes more feasible to create and play.
The actual world included with the game was a typical 1990s style superhero world with a heavy influence of occult and magical beings, which accounts for the much more detailed magic system included in the game. The extreme dissatisfaction to many fans of the system was that at times it appeared that Pulsar Games had simply used a find and replace function to insert their own hero and villain names with the names of the DC universe characters in examples and particularly benchmark examples. While this was necessary for copyright reasons, it was much less impressive to read about a unique, unknown hero detailed in only this book having a rating of 10 in a stat than a known one like Batman. The art in the book was heavily influenced by the Rob Liefeld style of comic book art, and commonly cited as low-quality and amateur by fans of the system.
In 2004 Pulsar Games was sold to new owners. Since then, nothing has been done official with the game, leaving it inactive. However, the M.E.G.S. system is still played by many fans.
