Brant County, Ontario
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brant County is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. Brant County was formed in 1852, it had previously been part of Wentworth & Oxford County. On October 25, 1784, Governor Sir Frederick Haldimand formally granted to the Mohawks and their allies under Joseph Brant, the territory located six miles on either side of the Grand River from its mouth to its source.
The county has now been dissolved into the single-tier municipalities of Brant and Brantford. Although these two municipalities are still enumerated as the single census division of Brant County by Statistics Canada, Brant does not have a county government.
