Bruno Prevedi

Bruno Prevedi (b. Revere, near Mantua, Dec. 21, 1928; d. Milan, Jan. 12, 1988) was an Italian opera singer, a tenor by vocal range.
He was Pollione near Leyla Gencer 1964 in Bellini's "Norma" at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and made his Metropolitan Opera debut on 6th March 1965 as "Cavaradossi" in Puccini's Tosca. Bewtween that date and 1968 he sang there performances of nine works, including Manrico in Il Trovatore with Gabriella Tucci and Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera with Leontyne Price. 1964 he
Bruno Prevedi possessed an attractive dramatic tenor voice with superb roundness at the top. There was much excitement about this great tenor when he emerged, which subsided eventually with the arrival of new types of tenors like Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. Yet, Prevedi was a much different artist with a far larger voice than the more famous ones to follow him. He recorded for Decca and can be heard in complete performances of Verdi's Nabucco with Suliotis, Macbeth with Nilsson, and Medea with Gwyneth Jones. He also recorded a superb set of tenor arias.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Bruno Prevedi was truly the last dramatic tenor of the 20th century to fully exploit the chest register. He belonged to a group that included James King, Mario del Monaco, James McCracken, Gino Penno and Franco Corelli; the stentorians!
