Burst fracture
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A burst fracture is a type of spinal injury in which a vertebra breaks under strong compression, with pieces shattering in all directions. Burst fractures are very severe, and require immediate hospitalization and surgery; patients are often unable and often cause spinal cord injury. They are often caused by car accidents or by falls. A burst fracture is often treated with a type of surgery called a "spinal fusion".
