Born in Athens, Greece, Elina Lagoudaki obtained her degree in Foreign Languages and Translation from Ionian University, Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation, Greece. During her undergraduate studies, she also attended courses in linguistics, translation and terminology at the University of Surrey as part of required training at a foreign academic institution.
She moved to London in 2002, where soon after she obtained an MA in Development Administration from Westminster Business School. In 2003 she started working for Vodafone Group Plc as a Web Administrator and Project Manager for website localisation projects. Elina is also working as a freelance translator (English-Greek) for the Greek Consulate in London.
In 2004 she started a PhD research on Translation memory (TM) systems at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on the improvement of functional and non-functional aspects of this type of translation tool by using a user-centric approach to the elicitation and analysis of the needs of translation professionals that will lead to the specification of technical requirements for a high-quality TM system.
She speaks fluently Greek and English (plus French and Italian at a conversational level).
Her hobbies include photography and travelling around the world.
