Ella and Basie! is a 1963 (see 1963 in music) studio album by the U.S. jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, accompanied by the Count Basie Orchestra, with arrangements by Quincy Jones.
[edit] Overview
Surprisingly, Ella and the Basie band had only recorded together once before, on the 1957 album One o'Clock Jump.
This album was the first time that Fitzgerald and Jones worked together, they would next meet for the Back on the Block sessions in 1989.
This album is revered alongside Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie!, Sings Songs from Let No Man Write My Epitaph, Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook, and Ella in Hollywood as one of Ella's greatest recordings.
