Ellettsville is a town in Monroe County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,078 at the 2000 census. The town is widely known as the home of the famous "Monroe County Fall Festival," an annual event which draws crowds from places as far off as Stinesville. The town boasts the Edgewood High School "Music Warehouse", widely recognized as being among the premier high school musical production programs of Monroe County, among other cultural and educational riches.
Ellettsville is often considered a suburb of the larger and more vibrant nearby community of Bloomington. But most residents of both cities vehemently deny this and prefer to regard each community as completely separate.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 5,078 people, 1,944 households, and 1,345 families residing in the town. The population density was 911.9/km² (2,356.8/mi²). There were 2,085 housing units at an average density of 374.4/km² (967.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.83% White, 1.22% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.81% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.18% of the population.
There were 1,944 households out of which 40.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 people, and the average family size was 3.09 people.
The population of the town was spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $37,276, and the median income for a family was $42,950. Males had a median income of $32,153 versus $26,313 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,120. About 6.7% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.8% of those under age 18 and 12.6% of those age 65 or over.
