Eva Brook Donly Museum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Eva Brook Donly Museum is located in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. Eva Brook Donly was an artist who prospered locally during the 19th century. When she died in the early 20th century, she donated her entire estate so that it could be transformed into a museum of Norfolk County's colorful history. There is a junior curator as well as a professional curator who presides over the museum. As of 2001, the junior curator's job was filled to a male student from Valley Heights Secondary School.
There are different artifacts from the 18th century to the 20th century, and an especially intruging one is about how Benjamin Franklin almost made Simcoe into an American city. In addition to her masterpieces, reproductions of Renaissance and Ancient Greek artistry can be found here. During the Christmas holidays, students can learn about 19th century living from instructors, although historical authenticity is not always followed through (e.g., the use of processed food coloring instead of traditional dyes).
