Evan (IPA: [ˈɛvən]) is an English given name for males or females. The name is derived from "lefan", the Welsh form of John (name) and is closely related to "Ivan", "Ian", and "Juan".
The name has a variety of meanings in different languages. In Celtic, the name means "young warrior"[citation needed]. In Welsh, it means "God is Good"[citation needed]. It is also sometimes short for Evangelos, which means "good messenger" in Greek[citation needed]. Evan in Hebrew means "stone"[citation needed].
