Ezequiel González
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ezequiel González (born July 10, 1980 in Rosario) is an Argentine football playmaker. He has been a player of Panathinaikos since January 2004. Known as Equi, he became a hero for Panathinaikos fans because of his leadership and technical abilities.
González started playing professionally at home-based first division Rosario Central in 1997. His success in the club from Santa Fe took him to Fiorentina though he only played as a reserve in the club struggling against bankruptcy. Early in 2002 El Equi returned to Argentina to play for Boca Juniors, and then a year later he joined his first club, Rosario Central. After half a season (a short championship in Argentina), Ezequiel transferred to Panathinaikos, where he became captain of the team, and helped the club to win the double in 2004, the first title in 9 years, a Greek Cup, and the Greek Championship, all in 2004.
Equi González has great technique, creative passing and high influence. His first UEFA Champions League appearance (September 2004) was more than successful, as he scored two fantastic goals against Norwegian champions Rosenborg.
He recently picked up an injury during the friendly match Panathinaikos vs. Apolon Athinon (1-0), and he will probably be out for 6 months (3/8/2006).
