Faizabad (Hindi: फै़जाबाद, Urdu: فیض آب) is a city on the banks of river ghaghra Saryu in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Faizabad has a sister city Ayodhya, considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. Faizabad was the fist capital of Nawabs of Oudh. Asaf-ud-Daula, son of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula made Lucknow the capital of Oudh. Faizabad and Ayodhya have a great heritage and have many monumental sites. The city of Ayodhya is known for its temples of Hindu religion. In Faizabad city there are many monuments of Nawabs, like tomb of Bahu Begum, Gulab-bari and many more. Ayodhya is also the birth place of first Tirthankar of the Jain religion, Shri Rishabh Dev. He is known as the father of Jain religion.

There are two Universities in Faizabad District, Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University (formerly Avadh University) Avadh University and Narendra Dev University of Ariculture and Technology (NDUAT). Kamta Prasad Sundar Lal Saket Post-Graduate degree college, (One of the largest PG college in eastern UP) is also situated in Faizabad. The legand of Oudh Umrao Jaan was born in Faizabad and her childhood name was Amreeran

The Town of Fyzabad in Trinidad and Tobago is named after Faizabad in India, when indentured labourers from Uttar Pradesh were taken to the island of Trinidad.
