Famicom Wars (ファミコンウォーズ Famikon Wōzu?) is a turn-based tactics military game. Developed by Intelligent Systems, it was released on August 12, 1988 for the Famicom in Japan. It is the first game in the Nintendo Wars series.
[edit] Gameplay
The game takes place over a series of 17 maps: 15 where the player can battle as either Red Star or Blue Moon, then 2 secret maps, each unlocked by beating all 15 maps as either country.
[edit] Legacy
This game was not released outside of Japan and, until translation was made in 2006, was consequently little-known outside Japan, where it has a large fanbase. The series would later become popular among English-speaking gamers with the release of Advance Wars.
The game's turn-based gameplay is somewhat similar to that of the Fire Emblem series, which was also developed by Intelligent Systems.
Further sequels were released for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Super Famicom, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS systems.
The maps in this game and Super Famicom Wars were later included in Advance Wars, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising and Advance Wars: Dual Strike.
[edit] Trivia
- Samus Aran appears as the Red Star CO of Map #2: Doonatsu-jima (ドーナツジマ) (Donut Island) in this Game.
