On June 16, 1982, on the orders of Catania Mafia boss Benedetto Santapaola his rival Alfio Ferlito was killed. Three policemen who were escorting him from Enna to Trapani prison were killed as well.

According to Law of 22 April 1941 n. 633, revised by the law of 22 May 2004, n. 128 article 87 and article 92, all non artistic photographs enter the public domain after 20 years counted from the beginning of the following calendar year (ie. as of 2006, prior to the 1st of January, 1986) after they were first published.
