[edit] Early life
Florendo Julio Antopina Castro (a.k.a. Flo) was born on July 7, 1987 in Baguio City, Philippines. He is of Hispanic descent. His father, Florendo E. Castro, is an enlisted personnel of the Philippine Air Force, and his mother, Monina A. Castro, is a full-time mom. His family first lived in Navy Base, Baguio City from 1983-1997 before settling in the Philippine Military Academy where his father is currently assigned. He attended Saint Louis School Center during his elementary years and was in the Special Science program of Baguio City National High School during his high school years. His passion for theater came into view when he played a part in the school’s production of the "West Side Story".
He is presently majoring in Marketing at Saint Louis University, Baguio City. He primarily took a course in Mass Communications, but due to "outside" influences, shifted to his present course. Even so, he plans to take a second degree in his former program after he graduates. His love for theater moved him to join the school’s resident theater group, the "Tanghalang SLU", but academic issues compelled him to withdraw from it early on. Before long, his reserved interest in writing headed out his commitment to the school’s newspaper, White and Blue.
His ultimate favorite show is "American Idol" because "the show’s format is not that stiff" and his all-time favorite movie is "Deep Impact" because "it made me cry my eyes out."
[edit] White and Blue
Initially, Florendo was not that confident in signing up for the school’s publication. Only a freshman then and possessing no background in journalism, it seemed to him that his chances for being accepted are slim. He finally resigned himself to the coaxing of his friends and agreed to sign up for the screening. As to his amazement, he passed the initial test, subsequently qualifying him for the ensuing interviews. And by stroke of luck, he made it in the interviews and became a bona fide member of White and Blue.
He thoroughly believes that the opportunities that followed his joining the publication are a constant reminder that God was with him all the time.
